If you, like me, still feel the sting of the mighty Topless Robot/The Robot's Voice being unceremoniously shuttered by corporate, you'll be pleased to know that some of the more diligent authors over there have gone off and started their own site, with blackjack! And hookers! As a matter of fact, forget the blackjack!

It's still building at this point, but the outstanding TR community - no longer hamstrung by the facebook-only comments that effectively killed the site - is beginning to re-form under WRT. Things are lookin' up for 2016 already!

Seemingly out of nowhere, one of my most very favorite places on the web, The Robot's Voice (nee Topless Robot) has ceased operations. The site started up right about when I did at Voice Media, and even though I was only distantly connected to the site by a paycheck, I've always been an ardent fan of the place and the guys who ran it, Rob Bricken and then Luke Y. Thompson. Thanks, gents, for many years of solid nerd news and entertainment. It's been the source for many a post here over the years. I left the community when facebook became the only way to participate, but I've always been there lurking and reading.

The oldschool web continues to die by inches and it is my lot to live through it, both professionally and personally, while my peers and heroes die around me. RIP TR.

A fresco depicting four superheroes committing what has been interpreted as a gang rape is currently the subject of a huge scandal in France. The mural - which is painted on the wall of a hospital in Clermont-Ferrand - depicts Wonder Woman having anal sex with Batman while Superman comes in her mouth. Supergirl is there, fisting, and the Flash is getting a handjob.

So, one of my favorite places on the web is Topless Robot, a wonderful self-loathing nerd humor site. I've been going there since it started up 5 years ago, and the reason TR is so goddamn awesome is the guy who runs it, Rob Bricken. Bricken writes about 90% of everything that goes on TR, generally while drunk and angry, and the site would be absolutely nothing without him.

Today is Rob's last day at Topless Robot. io9 backed a dumptruck of cash up to his door to entice him over to the dark side, where he will become another faceless cog in their mammoth Gawker suck machine. Thank you, Rob, for years of entertainment. Topless Robot will go on, but really, it'd be lucky to come out of this a mere shell of its former glory. RIP Topless Robot, best of luck to you Rob, and fuck a great big bunch of you, io9.

For my money, I'd like to see Talia Al Ghul (Ra's daughter, and eventual love interest of Bats) and Julie Madison (Bruce's fiancee that was targeted by Clayface, the villain I really want to see in Nolan's next Batman flick). Just please oh please don't let them turn out to be Catwoman and Batgirl.

For my money, Alien is the only movie in the franchise that's worth a wet shit. Way back in the long ago time when I was but a wee highschooler, I was made to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I tried and tried but couldn't ever get more than a dozen pages into it without lapsing into total literary apathy from prose that was deemed classic by respectable bookish types, but bored me to tears. Naturally, I never finished the book and failed the assignment, ultimately dropping out of high school, a bitter and broken young adult.

Fast forward to 2009. Seth Grahame-Smith has taken that same text, and with a few deft story changes and wonderful illustrations, has turned it into a book so gripping that I plowed through half of it on my first day of jury duty. GET THIS BOOK NOW.
You can read the first chapter and change right here. If you're not sold on the book yet, this'll swing ya.
